Isla Espiritu Santo & Snorkeling with Sea Lions

Visiting beautiful Isla Espiritu Santo is an experience not to be missed. You’ll want to combine the stunning natural scenery of this protected area with a snorkeling adventure with sea lions at the neighboring Los Islotes colony.

As locals, we have a good feel for the different vendors running tours to Isla Espiritu Santo and have chosen to work with a small, family-owned operator. Our guests often tell us that their day on the water combined with lunch on a secluded beach ranks as the #1 experience during their visit to La Paz.

Trips to Espiritu Santo and the sea lion colony are best taken on days when the winds are light and the water is calm. For this reason we recommend that you wait until you arrive to make arrangements. We can watch the weather and suggest days that might be best for your trip.

These trips are full day affairs, departing the hotel at 10:30 am and returning around 6:30 pm.

Beverages and lunch are included along with snorkel gear. We have beach towels for you to take along. Don’t forget sunscreen, a light layer to keep you warm while the boat is running, a hat for protection and your camera.

Wet suits are available for rent. The water can be a bit cooler out by the islands and the increased flotation provided by a suit can help if the current is running.

TIP: It is not necessary to jump into the water to see the sea lions. Many visitors prefer to remain on the boat to watch the antics of the animals on the rocks as they jockey for position and bellow out orders. In the water or not, this is a fun trip and watching the sea lions in action will make you want to laugh out loud!

A trip to Isla Espiritu Santo includes stops along the way to watch wildlife. What you are likely to see varies by season and can include grey and humpback whales, flying manta-rays, schools of dolphins, sea turtles, sea lions and a wonderful variety of birds.

Photographers and lovers of geology will be enthralled by the varying rock formations you pass on the trip to and from the islands. The changing angle of the sun makes the return trip just as fascinating as your trip out earlier in the day.

Combine all of the above with a delicious ceviche lunch on a remote beach, and your day just couldn’t get any better!
